It's time for BLOG CANDY!

I've been back to Blogland for 2 weeks now and think it's time for some CANDY. I'll be posting a picture of it soon, but meanwhile I'd like to hear your comments to this question:
What item(s) would you suggest a beginner stamper purchase, besides a scrubber and cleaning mist? I had a few previous comments, but would like to compile a list of ideas from you. So, to be eligible for the BLOG CANDY, leave a comment below, by clicking on the arrow and answer the question posted above. I'll draw a name on Thursday, the 13th and announce the winner. Please help spread the word. If you add a link to this post on your own blog, let me know and I'll add your name 3 times. So, let the fun begin and have a safe weekend!

I would highly suggest a paper cutter. Cutting straight lines helps so much. Thanks for sharing and welcome back!

I always recommend a good sentiment set like SU's Sincere Salutations because they are prepared for any occasion. I agree with Pat that they need a paper cutter but they figure that out on there own pretty quickly.
I'll add your candy on my blog too.

I think that every stamper needs some cute patterned paper, a good white cardstock, one pack each of SU's color family cardstock, a stampset that they like, black staz-on, a coloring mecdium of their choice, stickles and a roll of ribbon. These supplies will see you through your first set of projects...by then, you will be addicted... and hundreds of dollars later, you will be well on your way to being a bona fide stamping queen. :)

Hello! I started out with 5 SU ink pads in different colors. It helped save money and then got me to determine which other stamp pads I would need in the future. A stamp-a-ma-jig is also nice because I used to get frustrated with my crooked stamping. Thanks!

I know that when I first started buying Stampin Up items, one thing I liked as a beginner was the fact they sold multi-packs of Paper. This way you can slowly build up your paper by buying a different one each time. I would also suggest they buy the small set of stamp pads I think they are called Stamp Spots. The glue pen would be a good start too. Hope that helps.

I would say you must start with two sets. An image and a versital verses sets. Then you will need White cardstock and one family group cardstock. One or two ink colors. A defenitly a paper cutter and adhesive! Thanks for the chance!

I emailed the blog "stampin when I can" and told her about your blog candy. She will list it and you will get lots of people.

A very beginning stamper might consider a Simply Sent kit because it has just about everything in it -- and a sampling of each (card stock, stamps, ink spots and other goodies).

I have a blog called Elemental Ink at: http://inkingitup.blogspot.com

Thanks for the chance!

Lisa C. said...

I would say a pair of the good cutting scissors that SU sells. It is so hard to stamp when your stamps are not cut out right.

Anonymous said...

I would say that a Simply Sent kit would be the way to start and then build from that.

Angel said...

I would say a paper cutter is a must for a beginner and I would agree that one of the starter kits from Stampin Up is a great idea of you don't have anything. I remember just starting out.......How did it happen that I have so much stuff??

Etha said...

Lots and lots of magazines to see what's possible and to get ideas and to read the ads to have to spend more money on stuff ;) no but really, I find most magazine quite educational, even the ads!
or are you just talking SU stuff??

Gina Wrona said...

#1 SU Scissors to cut out sets, they cut the rubber just like butter!
#2 Paper cutter
#3 Boner of course to crease those folds
#4 Variety of multicolored cardstock
#5 Monoadhesive
#6 Blender pen & watercolor pencils
until you can get the markers or watercolor crayons

I'd have a lot of "dittos" to your above answers. First a paper trimmer and them the multipacks of paper. I have been getting this question a lot myself and it is hard to get someone started. I try to think of my first basics. Oh, a heat gun!

(P.S. As I type this I was giggling to myself because I have never heard a bone folder called a "boner" as in the post above mine. I would die laughing it I tried to call it that while demonstrating!)

Anonymous said...

I would say good carstock! Congratulations on your blog and thanks for the candy! Sandra

Jan Scholl said...

the best paper cutter you can afford, so at least the quality of a Carl cutter. Stay away from the Fiskars junk.

A scoring aid also is good-I have a Scor-it and they are coming out this month with a travel size just perfect card size for elss than 20 dollars. Great item to have.

Wonderful blog ! I would say a bone folder would be good.

I tried to post, but I don't think it took :(

Hi Leslie!
Thank you for offering blog candy :)

I would recommend a card kit, like Simply Sent by SU. I wish they had something like that when I started!

Cindy @ Creating at Home said...

Double sided tape is what I would suggest.

Reality Show Reject said...

My suggestion would be some good quality white cardstock and either watercolor crayons or pencils. This made me love stamping...if it wasn't for learning to color in stamped images, I probably would have never become a "stamper". Thanks for the chance to win some candy!

I've linked your candy on my blog...

Thanks again for the chance to win!

My top 5 would be:
1. Paper cutter
2. Card stock, designer paper, envelopes.
3. Stamps
4. Bone folder
5. Color pencils, felt pens, etc.
Then of course embellishments galore, a Cuttlebug, diecuts, the list is endless and gets to be very expensive, but so worth it. (and cheaper than therapy:)

Peggy Maier said...

Hi - I think every beginner needs some good quality cardstock, a Ticket Corner Punch (use mine all the time), a good paper cutter, Black Stazon & a good set of sentiments.

Anonymous said...

Aquapainter...can't live without it. I use it with all my stamp pads for watercoloring. Then, ticket corner punch...jazzes up all your cards very simply. Also love brads and blender pens.

Anonymous said...

I'm a beginner myself, but I learned from others that the basic supplies you need are:
1. Paper Cutter
2. Bone Folder
3. All purpose stamp set
4. Set of ink pads
5. Multicolored Cardstock
6. Adhesive

Anonymous said...

For a brand new stamper I would suggest-
- Black Brilliance ink pad
- Versamark watermark in pad
- a multicoloured ink pad
- paper cutter
- bone scorer
- variety of different coloured c/b
- one punch - either corner or ticket type
- double sided tape or good clear craft glue
- a sentiment set and another multi-purpose set
- good colouring in pencils or stamping markers

This should enable a beginner to make a few basic cards. Of course you could add brads, ribbons, jewels, fancy scissors, guillotine, sponges, aqua brushes etc!! LOL

Anonymous said...

a paper cutter
scissors
a good black ink pad
markers or colored pencils
white cardstock
colored cardstock
patterned paper
adhesive

those are some good starter items.

and then someone to help pay for all of it would be good as well :-)

Cindy Vernon said...

Paper Cutter, adhesive and a really good black stamp pad and maybe some chalks or colored pencils to color in your images.

Ijsbeer said...

I am new to stamping so this is intresting for me:)
I just started with some stamps and a pack of ink just to see if I liked it. And now I cannot wait to have enough money but buy stuff I need, like a paper cutter and quality white cardstock.

Amy said...

I haven't seen anyone suggest markers yet. A beginning stamper can get more color options faster and more cheaply than ink pads, have fun adding colored detail to stamped images & can color in line art images at the same time!

Great question!

Cathy M said...

For new stampers supplies.

Good cutting scissors
Paper cutter
Metal Ruler
Chalks
Inks
Glue
Stamps
Hand Punches
Card Stock
Designer Paper
Ribbon
eyelets
stickers
Ok the list could go on and on.
You could start out with a kit to see what you prefer to work with.
Thanks for a chance.

Definitely a paper cutter. White cardstock & markers (or watercolor pencils) until they know what ink pads they would use the most of.

doverdi said...

If I was telling a beginner stamper what they needed to purchase in order to get started, my suggestions would be:

1. Paper Trimmer
2. Scissors
3. Good white cs & colored cs
4. Black ink pad
5. a versatile stamp set or stamp
6. Either chalk or watercolor crayons to color with.
7. Some ribbon & embellishments.

I wouldn't go overboard on things because you know if they become an 'addict' they'll be buying all the things that we do. I'd only suggest enough that they can start out & make a few nice cards to start & see how they like it.

becca said...

how about a clear block? I love using mine with my clear stamps. thanks!!

Anonymous said...

I have three itmes that I would recommend as essential;

Paper trimmer and score blade
Black stamp pad, and/or
Craft & Rubber Scissors

Anonymous said...

Welcome back...& congrats on making the design team...I totally love that card!! For a beginner stamper, I'd suggest getting the Stampin Spots (ink), cardstock, markers, & some embellishment like brads & ribbon all in the same color family. (...and of course a paper cutter, adhesive, scissors, a great stamp set, black Stazon, & envelopes.) Thanks for this chance to win sweet candy!

I was a beginner (still think of myself as one) a year ago. The things that are musts for me have been a high quality paper cutter, good scissors for detail cutting, a Versamark pad, variety packs of paper, and the stampin spots. My "oh wow" moment as a rookie was realizing that you could stamp with Versamark, use clear embossing powder, and then not worry if you didn't have matching ink. Thanks for offering a chance to win blog candy.

Monika said...

I would suggest to buy some SU Crayons. I just love to colour my stamped images! I guess an aqua pen would go with it.

I would have to say a paper trimmer! congratulations on your blog!

I would recommend the following:
a true beginner who has nothing... the Simply set kit and adhesive.
If you want to start making cards:
craft and rubber scissors, package of your favorite assorted paper, package of winter white c/s, favorite family stampin sports, and two stamp sets, one that is your favorite set and one that has a variety of words.
For an advanced stamper: I would recommend becoming a demonstrator! LOL!
Thank you for listening! kt

(After buying stamps and inks,) I would suggest a really good pair of paper scissors that lie well in your hand, and don't cause aches and pains.
Thanks for sharing.

I would recommend a paper trimmer and a bone folder.

Anonymous said...

I would also say ditto to all of the suggestions, but would these be the same items for a new stamper that has been just scrapbooking? That's the situation I have with a group of mine, some have never stamped!
Thanks for the chance at the candy.

I think every beginner needs a stampamajig to help them with their layouts. and of cours a stamp set would be good

Anonymous said...

I think that any stamper that uses clear stamps should have a Fiskars Stamp Press. It's so innovative and it's easy to stamp words without having to do them one letter at a time.

Rosella said...

I would suggest a paper cutter, definitely some black ink, a set of sentiment stamps, good scissors. I'll go and link your blog on mine.

Elaine said...

fun fun fun!!

I'd say:
A paper trimmer, adhesive, a nice versatile punch, and ribbon! (assuming you have stamps in mind, and some cardstock or paper!!) If not, add in the black ink, white cs and a package of ink spots!

Bonnie Weiss said...

The best adhesive you can afford! Nothing worse than your first stamping project (card, book, etc), falling apart after you just spent "hours" on creating it!

Robyn said...

Good scissors and strong double sided tape as straight edges and pieces staying put are necessary elements of cards. Thanks.

Rebecca said...

As a relative newcomer to this "sport" (I'm not so guilt-ridden if I call it that), I can see I have lots of shopping to do! I'd suggest a GOOD paper cutter, bone folder, sentiment set, a stamp set of various images like florals that can be used for many different projects and types of cards, beautiful paper, a stamp positioner and lots of double-stick tape. Thanks for asking and letting me play.

Diane said...

I would suggest a good variety of cardstock and a few ink pads to start off with.
Thanks for the chance at your candy!

Hi Leslie!
Thank you for offering blog candy :)

I think a "beginner's kit of tools" would be just the thing...
scissors, bone folder, ruler, stamp cleaner, adhesive, & paper trimmer.

I don't have a blog, so I can't qualify for the extra entries :(

Kathi B said...

Must haves would be a paper cutter and adhesive. Besides those, I would have to add brads, ribbon and pop dots.

Anonymous said...

I think a paper trimmer is a "must have." Of course, we know how quickly other things(embellishments, different kinds of inks, etc.) become "must haves, too!

Paper snips by SU. They are such great detail sizors, they make cutting out images so much easier!
PS, there's a blog candy on my blog too right now!

Barb S. (FL) said...

I would say the following:
1. Fiskars paper cutter
2. EK Success scissors
3. White card stock
4. A pack of SU assort. card stock
5. Black dye ink pad
6. Watercolor pencils
7. Set of assort images
8. Set of sentiments
9. Bone Folder
10. Stamping magazine or SU catalog for ideas

I believe if they had these 10 things then they would be ready to go ahead and create.

Good Scissors and a paper cutter

Anonymous said...

Definitely invest in a paper cutter. You also need stamps, lots of white cardstock & envies, colored papers, embellishments, coloring supplies, etc. You might want to invest in a card kit to get started, just to see if it's something you enjoy. Thanks for offering us blog candy!

good scissors, brads and bone folder

i think circle cutters of some sort are imperative. punches are very nice (imo) you can do so much, scallop things, make olives, flowers, polka dots, lots of stuff

Debi Calandrelle said...

I usually tell my customers to choose a color family that they like best and then order the assortment pkg of card stock, and the coordinating Stampin' Spots, a basic black classic ink pad, and a pkg of either white or vanilla cs and a good paper cutter/trimmer.

Anonymous said...

Glue stick, scissors, paper, cardstock and a stamp would be the minimum purchase to start with. And it grows and grows from there.

Pegg S said...

For a beginner I would suggest to start with:

- Best paper trimmer/cutter they can afford
- Good Scissors
- Several inks
- Tombow Mono glue
- Pop dots
- Cutting Mat/knife
- Paper -- colored/neutrals
- Few embellishments
- Sentiment stamps
- Image stamps
- Coloring medium if outlined images
- Stazon or other permanent ink
- Acrylic ruler

Lilian said...

i think they would need a good paper cutter and double-sided tape. :)

A new stamper needs black ink, and a great all occasion stamp set. White paper and a pack of their favorite color family of assorted. Add two pads from the same color family and you are ready to create some great basic cards.

Of course a pair of snips, cutter and adhesive are essential as well.

I think a good versatile stamp set is a must. One you can use for any occasion.

Buy the best paper cutter you can afford as it's something that you will use more that any other item. And if you buy just one die cutter, the Cuttlebug is my favorite.
